Most administrations, as they get comfortable with the political scene in Washington, get better and better at handling the press and controlling the PR battle out of DC.
No Presidential administration was better at this than Bill Clinton.
No Presidential administration is worse at this than George Bush.
Latest example - obviously the Port Authority.
Yesterday morning, it comes out the George Bush feels SO PASSIONATELY about giving the UAE control of our ports that he is willing to exercise his constitutionally given right to veto Congressional legislation for the FIRST time in his term.
Not six hours later, I hear it reported, in what has to be seen as the worst backtracking maneuver EVER by a PR Machine, that President Bush DIDN'T EVEN LEARN about this deal with the UAE until AFTER it was signed.
Yet it's worth a Presidential veto????
Oy...
