The morning news...
Ok, we'll start off with a couple of non-controversial things:
1) Equality for Gays - Idiot protesters who hate gays at Minnesota soldier funerals. And here is the worst part - it has been reported as six protesters, but in reality, it was more like a family (mother, father and four children). What they have done is absolutely classless and despicable, but in light of the fact it is really one crazy family doing the protesting, I'm not sure this is worthy of the national attention it is getting. Props to the Patriot League Protest Fighters for coming out against them in full force.
2) Abortion - South Dakota - the first line of defence in the Anti-Abortion race to overturn Roe v. Wade in the post Rehnquist and O'Connor Courts. Some leading Minnesota economist has come out claiming that the entire legislative body in South Dakota is unconstitutional. While technically true, this is a bit of an oversimplification. If we followed that theory, Brown v. Board of Education would have been unconstitutional due to the Plessy v. Ferguson precedent. Laws and their constitutionality change all the time in large part due to the response of the populace and our culture changing. That said, as much fear as Pro-Choice advocates have over the new court set-up, I would be absolutely shocked if the Supreme Court was to overturn Roe v. Wade. It could happen, but my gut just tells me it won't. And one final note - where did all these Pro-Life Democrats come from in South Dakota? Granted, I don't have nearly as much knowledge of politics as I used to, but is there even a Pro-Life Democrat in Congress? Or, at least one that would support a law like this?
3) Finally, something non-controversial, specfically for Angela. A new study today came out stating that opposed to convential theories of Crohn's disease which believes it is a result of an overactive immune system (this is what I have heard, I have no idea myself if it is a conventional belief or not), in fact the study today came out saying Crohn's evolves from an UNDERACTIVE immune system. Oh, and the study provided one more interesting tidbit - researchers believe that a possible cure for Crohn's disease could be found in the form of a prescription drug already on the market - VIAGARA.
If this is the case, I expect we will soon see a spike in the number of men claiming to have Crohn's disease...
