Playoffs...

Cole Hamels....please don't turn into Rick Ankiel...

I say give the MVP to whoever plays better this series between Matt Holiday and Jimmy Rollins.

Wouldn't it be better to put the afternoon baseball game on in the evening so that viewers can flip between two games? Seriously, just how much loss of advertising revenues is that really going to cause? Shouldn't a sport be trying to promote its playoffs instead of hiding them during the middle of the day? This will always bother me about baseball.

If Brandon Webb loses tonight I would be shocked. If I manage to stay up and watch the entire game, that would be a bigger shock. How would you like to be a Chicago Cubs fan on the East Coast who won't get to start watching this game until 10PM at night? At least this decision is justifiable since it is a 7PM start time on the West Coast where the game is being played (unlike hockey which has started a Minnesota Wild home playoff game at 9PM CST before when they were playing Vancouver).

I am really pulling for a Chicago Cubs World Series victory this year, which would mean over the last two years, your baseball world champions have put together a combined 168-156 (.518 winning percentage) record. Good, riveting stuff there, Bud.

Cole won't go Ankiel, but he could get hurt, again.

Holiday gets the MVP. When your in the playoffs and had Todd (17 HR's) Helton and a rookie as your best 2 offensive helpers, you get it over a guy with last years MVP, a 2B who might have been the MVP this season if he hadn't missed 1/3rd of the year, and a LF who's not bad in his own right.

Gotta have it on in the afternoon for the kids, you know. And for me at work :-)

Agreed on Webb, this series gets decided in that 2/3/4 SP matchups. If the Cubs can't win there, they are headed home, because I'm taking Webb vs. Big Z, both times.

The world loves the NFL. The NFL loves parity. Bud loves the popularity the NFL has. Bud wants it. Bud gets parity. Which is OK, if you don't mind a Rockies/Angels World Series!

Matchup winners game one:

NY and Wang 6-2 over CC
Boston in a slugfest (7-5 type game) over Anahiem
Arizona 5-1 over the Cubs
Colorado 6-3 over Philly

Todays games:

- NY and Wang 6-2 over CC (better stick with this, since I predicted it yesterday)
- Colorado 7-4 over Philly (this one could go either way, with the unproven pitchers out there
- Arizona 3-2 over Chicago (I've got a BAD feeling about the Cubs; I see a meltdown after last night)

Oh, and to recap yesterday:

Bos/Ana- Missed the slugfest part, got the result

Col/Phi- Missed the score by a bit, but got the result

Ari/Chi- Missed the score by a fraction, got the game.

3-0 day one!

It's too bad you're not betting on baseball...

Good point. Yesterday's update:

Missed the NY game, Wang was flat, and got hammered.

Underestimated the AZ offense, got the game right.

Underestimated Kaz Matsui, got the game right.

5-1, baby!

And for tonight and Saturday:

- I'm not buying Carmona. I could be wrong, but I'm not buying it. I AM buying AP in the postseason. 6-1 Yanks.

- Totally no idea what Dice-K brings to the table tonight. Here's guessing it's not much. 7-3 Angels.

- Cubs season is on the line, and it's all about Rich Hill. Livan isn't much anymore, but won't matter. Bring out the goat, 7-4 Arizona.

- Ditto in Colorado, where Jaime Moyer goes vs. young flamethrower U Jimenez. I'm betting Moyer looks a lot like fellow senior citizen Tom Glavine did last start, 9-4 Rockies.

Remember, the same day senior citizen Glavine blew up, senior citizen Moyer pitched his team into the playoffs.

I didn't get my AL predictions up for last night, you can chose to believe me or not, but I was 2-0 on the games, had the Cle/NY game at 7-3, and Bos/Ana at 6-5 (missed Schilling's great game, got the score). I'll count those, as, frankly, this is only for my own amusement, but for now 9-3, 10-2 if it weren't for the plague that Cleveland called in to rattle Joba... nice grounds crew.

Tonight, I'm not sure how I feel about Cleveland starting Byrd. I get all the logic, but every time I look, logic or not, my mind screams "you are starting PAUL BYRD in this game? In a game that if the Yankees win, you are then having to rely on CC, who labored to get the win in game 1? Why not get CC out there tonight, Carmona in game 7 if needed, and at least go down with your best, if you lose?" if Cleveland had started CC, my predictions would have been:

- NY 6-3 tonight, with CC being a little shaky, and Wang being much better than Game 1.

- Cle 4-1 in Game 7, with Carmona and the bugs winning another classic.

As it is, with Byrd going tonight, I'll even pick both games right now:

- NY 9-1 tonight. Byrd gets SHELLED, A-Rod goes 4-5 with 2 HR's, and Wang looks solid, as he did most of the year.

- NY 6-2 in Game 7. CC is shaky, even on full rest, and Petitte moves into a tie with Smotlz for most postseasons wins ever.

And I clearly horribly underestimated Cleveland. Or, most likely, I'm a unabashed Yankees fan. Oh well, on to the next round, after a 9-4 DS run.

- Col/Az: I really do like Jeff Francis. That said, Az seems to hit lefties well, and I'm going with the Cy Young winner. 5-2 DBacks.

- Bos/Cle: How smart does Eric Wedge look now? He won the game, and he has his 1-2 going vs. Boston. Consider this an admition that he's WAY smarter at this baseball stuff than I am. I'm still sticking with the fact that Beckett is overrated, even though I like the way the Red Sox bats have picked up. Good series coming here, game one will be 6-3 Indians.
